Configuring Outlook Express

Outlook Express Email Account Setup

We recommend using an email program that is capable of checking multiple email accounts for our clients who have POP email.   This will allow you to check each email you have, whether it is your ISP's email address or an email with have set up for you to use with your domain.

The one we recommend is Outlook Express from Microsoft.  It comes bundled in the Internet Explorer browser which is a free download from Microsoft.  It also comes shipped with Windows98.

How to configure Outlook Express to check additional email accounts:

These instructions should be followed if you already have an existing setup for your current email account in Outlook Express and wish to add a second email account.  If you are using Outlook Express for the first time you should carefully follow the prompts in the setup wizard using "mail2.beesky.com" as the pop3 and smtp server settings.  Also enter your username and password in the appropriate boxes.

1.  Make sure you have a POP email address you are wishing to add.  If your new email is an alias there is not additional configuration required.

2.  Open Outlook Express, go to "Tools" --> "Accounts.."

3.  In the "Internet Accounts" window that pops up, choose the "Mail" tab from the selection at the top.

4.  On the right side, choose "ADD" --> "Mail"

5.  Add each field you are prompted to complete in the "Internet Connection Wizard"

6.  Where you are asked for the Incoming Server, it should be a POP3 type, and the server name will be "mail2.beesky.com".

7.  The outgoing mail SMTP is also the same. "mail2.beesky.com".

8. When asked for your Internet Mail Logon, you should enter your USERNAME in the first box where it asks for "Pop account name".  Your username is the name you requested for the pop account, it is the part that comes before the "@" symbol in your email address.  You also need to fill in your password below your username.

9.  Complete the rest of the fields in the wizard and click "Finish" to complete the setup.

10.  If you want to download (check) your mail in all your email accounts automatically, go to "File" --> "Accounts" and select the email account.  Choose the "Properties" button.  At the bottom of the section called "General" check the box at the bottom that says "Include this account when doing a full send and receive".   Please read about 'sending' email below.

How to SEND email using more than one account with Outlook Express:

You can change your default email program quite easily with Outlook Express.  When sending an email, your recipient will see what email account it has been sent from.  If you have a personal and a business email account you should try to remember to switch the default to the email account you wish to send with.

To change the default account:

1.  Go to "Tools" --> "Accounts..".

2.  Make sure you are in the "Mail" section.

3.  Click on the email account you with to make the default.

4.  Click on the "Set as Default" and then 'close'.
